OpenAI has discontinued its AI classifier, a tool designed to identify AI-generated text, after criticism of its accuracy.
The termination was subtly announced via an update to an existing one blog entry.
OpenAI’s announcement says:
“As of July 20, 2023, the AI classifier is no longer available due to its low accuracy rate. We are working to incorporate feedback and are currently researching more effective provenance techniques for text. We are committed to developing and deploying mechanisms that allow users to understand whether audio or visual content is generated by AI.”
