Bing Chat is not yet available in Chrome or Safari browsers

Bing Chat Safari Download Edge

Bing Chat will come to Chrome and Safari browsers, leaving behind the requirement to install Edge, Microsoft’s browser, to use Bing Chat. Bing has been testing Bing Chat for a few weeks now, and Bing is still testing it.

What we know In the coming days, we expect Bing Chat to work soon in Chrome, Safari, and other non-Edge browsers. Right now, when most people go to Bing and click the “Chat” button, they’ll see this dialog to download Edge to use Bing.

Try Bing Chat in other browsers. Since then, Bing has been testing Bing Chat in Chrome, Safari, and other browsers earlier this month. Bing then scaled the tests to a larger percentage of users at the end of last week. Some news organizations they incorrectly reported that this is now live, it’s not, and have since updated their stories.

Search engines usually test new features and changes on a subset of users. Bing does it all the time and so does Google. So it’s not unusual to see tests of these search engines all the time, some making it live to all users and some never seeing the light of day. But with Bing Chat coming to more browsers, that should happen very soon.

What Microsoft said. Here are Bing’s CEO Mikhail Parakhin’s tweets on the matter, where you can see that Bing has been testing this for a while, but it should be out soon.

First, here’s what he just said yesterday that Bing is still testing Bing Chat in other browsers, but should be available to all users soon:

Flying to make sure we’ve fixed the known issues, but planning an aggressive rollout

Last week he said that this feature should be released in a week or two, so it should be available to everyone very soon:

Operating flights should start rolling out in a week or two.

Late May was when he confirmed that Bing was testing this for the first time:

We will bring it to all browsers soon. It’s just about concentrating the GPUs where most of our customers are. As we add GPUs, we increase availability everywhere. Of course, there is additional native support in Edge for the sidebar and things that others don’t have.

Other tests So you know, so is Bing testing dark mode for Bing Chat and eventually you can get a “expert mode” interface to search Bing Chat. Also, Bing is thinking with one No search prompt for Bing Chat. Looks like Bing would like to see Bing Chat comes to Apple CarPlay but it looks like Apple may be preventing it at the moment.

Why we care Bing Chat and these AI search solutions are changing fast. Both companies are frequently testing new features and expanding access to those features. What goes live and what remains a test is one of those waiting games.
