KTRK-TV, the Disney television station located in Houston, TX, is seeking an experienced Digital News Content Producer for a part-time position who can write, edit and produce content for our digital, social and connected TV platforms.
You’ll work in a high-energy, non-stop news environment to help us cover breaking news and create compelling content that our users will find valuable and engaging.
Curiosity, strong writing skills and a willingness to learn are important. Some of the daily tasks include writing stories, producing breaking news, creating original videos, producing live streams, optimizing content for reach and impact, and helping manage content for social media and engaging our audience.
Responsibilities:
Help develop content across current and future platforms with storytelling optimized for each screen and reflecting the diversity of our audience.
Write stories from different sources
Own breaking news and big stories quickly and accurately and grow new opportunities in our media environment
Ability to produce a variety of content for social platforms
Collaborate with other content producers and newsroom leaders to maximize the sharing of our content in a cross-platform manner
Understanding of SEO (Search Engine Optimization) and how to use data to make editorial decisions to better reach and grow our audience.
Basic qualifications:
Minimum of 1 year of experience in a production or writing environment
Training in journalism or related discipline
Strong editorial skills, good news judgment and social media experience
Excellent communication and writing skills, as well as proficiency in grammar, spelling and punctuation
Ability to multi-task and thrive in a fast-paced news environment
Knowledge of social and SEO strategy with a desire to stay on top of emerging platforms
Must be able to meet deadlines and work under pressure
Proficient with AP style
Experience with Adobe Premiere and Photoshop (or similar non-linear editing programs)
Must be flexible and willing to work mornings, evenings and weekends and adapt to changes
Required training:
Bachelor’s degree (preferred related degree in Journalism, TV/Production, etc.)
