Changes to Google and Bing, along with the increased popularity of OpenAI’s ChatGPT, means that internet search is about to change in a big way. Until we know exactly what it looks like, the truth is that many businesses rely on ranking well in search engines to get targeted keywords to generate sales. With a little know-how, AI can make this process faster and easier, meaning more can be produced in the same amount of time.
Between them, two ChatGPT and SEO request specialists have insights into how business owners can create SEO-optimized articles.
One of them is Udo Gollub, CEO of 17-minute languages, a company that develops and markets language courses in 80 languages and has 40 employees. Since many of his clients come as a result of his SEO-optimized websites, Gollub has been exploring AI writing tools to improve his processes and sharing what he learns in a community for content creators, which it began.
The second is Henry Purchase, founder of SEO space, the SEO plugin for SEO experts from Squarespace and Squarespace helping over 650 businesses rank on the first page of Google. The Purchase plugin has ChatGPT integration so customers can use ChatGPT and other AI tools to generate content at scale.
Using ChatGPT for SEO content
Gollub has been using ChatGPT to produce highly relevant articles with these seven simple steps, which you can copy for the same effect. Buying focuses on making sure they are optimized for SEO from a technical perspective.
1. Generate the ideas
Request ChatGPT using “Get 50 highly SEO-optimized blog post ideas on the topic of (topic). Write the headline and a one-sentence summary,” suggests Gollub.
This displays a variety of headlines and summaries for you to peruse. See what articles you might want to read right away. If they stand out to you, they will stand out to your audience. Pick the top ten and go ahead with those first ones, making sure there’s a variety of topics and angles in that first batch.
If you like some but not others, please let ChatGPT know that. Say, “These are good, can you give me 10 more like these” and follow through. Keep asking for iterations until you have a list that works for your site.
“Good SEO titles should be 50-60 characters long, include the main keyword you want to rank for, and be clickable,” Purchase added. “Rank on Google is not good if your title is not intriguing.” Buying tips include adding a date to the title, “in 2023,” or making the title a list to improve click-through rates. You can request these amendments on ChatGPT.
2. Create the structure
The next message from ChatGPT, according to Gollub, should be: “This will be the topic of a highly SEO-optimized blog post: (copy the title and abstract just generated). From this title and abstract, create a list of all the points of what should be included in the article.
You will now be presented with a summary of the article that you can view. Purchase suggests characterizing ChatGPT by adding, “You’re an SEO expert who knows how to structure SEO articles better than anyone to rank on the first page of Google” to your prompt, as well as, “you should add attractive subheadings (H2 and H3) that increase the likelihood that readers will continue to the end of the article.”
3. Edit the bullets
This is where it’s more manual. Look at the bulleted list of article information and check the facts. “ChatGPT sometimes makes things up,” Gollub explained. Don’t take it lightly because you will be spreading misinformation in your articles.
Besides the facts, check the flow. Think about the indicators and their relevance to your audience. Cross-reference your captions with the keywords you’re trying to rank for. Make sure the structure makes sense before continuing. Purchase added, “ChatGPT can’t effectively reference and add unique facts from other sources on the Internet,” but that’s something you need to increase your chances of ranking on page 1. “Do your research additional to add a unique view of these bullets”.

4. Write the article
Request ChatGPT as follows, advised Gollub. “Now write a highly SEO-optimized (word count) blog post about this: (copy your title and bullet points here). Write as HTML code with basic HTML formatting. Use short paragraphs and write in this style of ‘writing: “
Here is the writing style prompt that you can use or edit as you see fit: “The writer’s style is characterized by authoritative experience, clarity, narrative, and empathy. They break down complex concepts into digestible explanations. His writing is accessible, avoiding jargon. They encourage engagement and critical thinking, encouraging readers to explore new ideas. The transparency and honesty of the writer, sharing personal experiences, adds authenticity to his content. They address the pain points of their audience, offering practical solutions tailored to their needs. Overall, the writer’s concise and impactful style empowers readers with useful knowledge.”
If you’ve followed the points so far, what should follow is an SEO-optimized article with a compelling headline and summary that expands on the points you’ve made, presented in the right tone and style for your site . You can always ask ChatGPT to edit parts of the article if needed. “For example,” said Purchase, “if you think the second paragraph could be more engaging, tell ChatGPT.” Don’t just write for SEO best practices, write for humans. “If readers don’t enjoy your article and leave, you’ll have a high bounce rate for the page, hurting your rankings.”
5. Edit the article
A mistake would be to hit the copy button and paste the article directly into your site. You need to edit more. One way is by adding another message: “You can rewrite this article but make it more (style),” perhaps asking for it to be more formal or informal, or requesting less jargon. You can also further specify the directness of the tone. Maybe ask ChatGPT to expand on specific sections or be more concise in others.
Another way is to edit the article yourself, which Gollub recommends. “Google can detect AI-written articles, and I predict that non-AI-written articles will rank better.” Read the piece and adapt it a bit more. Insert lines that personalize it to your business, add stories from your personal experience, humanize it a bit. This won’t take long to write from scratch.
“An increasingly important ranking factor in SEO is topical authority,” Purchase said, meaning that when you edit your article, “you’re showing Google that you’re the expert and that you have knowledge that the people can’t get anywhere else.” He said this will help you cut through the generic content on the internet.
6. Prepare the image
Now that you have your article, it’s time to create the accompanying image. Ask ChatGPT to tell you what that image should be. Gollub suggests using this prompt: “Now imagine an image for this blog post that will get a lot of clicks, likes and shares, and write a description for that image. Describe the main element of the image as well as the background.”
This message will create an image description that you should use along with your SEO optimized article. At the end of this description, add “realistic, award-winning photo” and specify the dimensions it should be, for example 16:9. Keep asking for edits until you’re happy with the description, and if you need more than one image for the item, select “regenerate response”.
7. Create the image and promote your blog
Now this is where it gets really clever. Copy the image description from ChatGPT to Midjourney to generate an attractive image to finish your piece, in the exact style and format you require. Repeat the process for the second and third images you will insert into the body.
Once you’ve uploaded your article and images to your site, take it one step further. You can ask ChatGPT for captions and alt text for images, a meta description of the article, and a series of tweets or Instagram captions that will promote the piece. Ask ChatGPT to suggest 10 places you should share the article, and if you have the web-assisted version, ask 10 influencers you should send it to, as well as the message that should accompany your release.
Co-create with ChatGPT. Keep asking him for ideas, headlines, captions, copy, image descriptions and promotional plans. Use it to generate ideas about what’s possible and expand your production capacity. These seven steps are just the beginning to increase production and grow your site.
