AI tools for better headlines

Writing headlines is hard. They are never good enough. Shorter titles are better as long as they are informative and clickable. And don’t forget the keywords.

Fortunately, AI tools can help. I’ve tried a few and got decent results from the following four.

AI Holder Tools

CoSchedule offers a practical and free service Headline Studio. It deploys multiple signals of impact, readability, and more, including:

Powerful words that increase clicks, Emotional words that attract reactions, Simple and common words to avoid, Length, Clarity and readability, “Skimmability”, the ease of identifying keywords.

It also scores headlines for search engine friendliness, providing tips for improvement. An “AI assistant” provides advice on specific headlines. An “AI writer” will write the headlines for you. The tool saves your headlines for tweaking or review.

hypotenuse.ai generates headlines and slogans that give strength, turning visitors into customers. The tool focuses on e-commerce to create headlines that sell products.

Enter a product name, a target keyword, and select the tone, for example, conversational, enthusiastic, humorous, professional. The premium version can sync with a brand’s voice by crawling the site for style and usage and aligning the title accordingly.

The tool generates several title variations based on a user’s settings. Mine were:

Product Name: “Floral Blue Dress”. Keywords: “Summer Dresses” and “Blue Dresses”.

Using the conversational tone, the tool generated:

Title: “Blue Dresses for Sunny Days.” Tagline: “Bring the breeze and flowers of summer into your everyday style. Slip into stylish comfort in our floral blue dresses for women, perfect for warm weather and making memories.

For professional tone:

Title: “Blue dresses that make summer unforgettable.” Tagline: “Slide into beautiful, bright dresses in shades of blue. Floral prints and flattering silhouettes will make you the beauty of every summer party.”

The suggestions were helpful, although the change in tone was not. However, it is a useful tool for improving pay-per-click ads, organic search rankings, and most importantly, clarity for humans.

Hypotenuse starts at $9 per month, which includes AI images.

Sassbook uses AI to generate headlines of the body copy. The free version creates up to two headlines from 250 words of copy. Paid versions allow up to 800 words.

To test, I pasted the intro of one of my articles. The two subsequent headlines were catchy and captured the focus of the article:

“Content Marketing Won’t Pay For Itself.” “Content Marketing Is Not Only Expensive, It’s Vague, Here’s Why.”

Paid versions, which offer more settings to adjust title style and duration, start at $32.50 per month, billed annually. The free option generates 10 headlines per day, two per article.
