If you want a proper answer to a question, add “reddit” to the end of your search query to get a human answer. Google’s new Outlook is just that, just without the Reddit part.
The first pages of Google search results are an SEO-clogged mess, a list of links to websites designed to rank high on Google, to be of no use to anyone. Search engine optimization has ruined search, and Google seems to be admitting defeat instead of offering answers from humans.
“Search engines often try to generalize their results to account for a variety of different related search terms. This is a great way to help point people in the direction of useful general information, but it really breaks down against a complex context. specific question,” I’m Michaellawyer a Michael and Associateshe told Lifewire via email.
“If you want to, say, find an overview of how to use a piece of software, Google is great. If you want to know why that piece of software crashes when you perform function X on operating system Y, you’ll have to read the entire manual and become an expert or ask someone for help.”
MESS-EO
Most of Google’s top search results are SEO junk. SEO, or search engine optimization, is the dark art of Google games. The idea is to get to the first page of results for a given search engine (in this case, Google), no matter what. Have you ever searched for a recipe, clicked on a link, and had to mull over an absurdly long blog post before you got to the actual recipe? This is SEO.
Let’s look at an example of what self-service SEO looks like. When I asked for feedback on why human-driven results are better than SEO garbage, I of course received many responses from SEO people hoping to link their websites in this article (sitelinks from high rank are SEO gold). And many of these SEO people are happy to throw their own industry under the bus just to get that link. Here’s the tech CEO Nikita Sherbinawho told me he has “a passion for digital marketing and SEO”.
“Results from real humans on forums and Reddit are often perceived as better because they provide direct, unfiltered answers based on personal experiences and opinions. They prioritize usefulness over SEO optimization,” Sherbina told Lifewire via email. electronic
People-driven perspectives
perspectives, released Friday, puts a new tab at the top of Google search results. Behind this tab are results pulled from social networks, internet forums, Q&A sites, and discussion boards: videos, Quora posts, Reddit threads, etc. In short, it’s the stuff you already skip for bloated SEO nonsense, only now Google has filtered it out for you.
It’s a welcome addition, especially since the previous best way to get relevant results (adding “reddit” to the end of every search) is now broken thanks to Reddit CEO Steve Hoffman’s constant efforts to ruin the site as Elon Musk has done. Ruined Twitter.
So what makes these crowdsourced results better? To answer that, let’s think about it from the other direction. If you spend any time on Internet forums, message boards, or places like Mastodon, you’ll know that people discuss a lot of things, offer a lot of opinions, and ask and answer a lot of questions.

These spaces are almost all highly specialized. An internet forum dedicated to a brand of musical instruments, for example, or a subreddit devoted entirely to the art of extremely tidy data center cables. When a community member like this takes the time to answer a question, you know it’s going to have some substance.
“When a human being bothers to answer an online query, they either have a great deal of expertise to answer, or are really passionate about the topic (preferably both). To me, it comes down to trust.”Joshua WoodCEO and founder of tech hospitality company and event listing site blog he told Lifewire via email.
As these SEO websites first get even worse, they are now getting worse generated by AI—The value of Perspectives will only increase. Until the SEO people figure out how to play it too.
