Merchant Center Next to replace Merchant Center

Goodbye Merchant Center, hello Merchant Center Next.

Today at Google Marketing Live, Google officially unveiled a new simplified version of Merchant Center, called Merchant Center Next.

More than just the look and feel of Merchant Center Next will change. For example, products can be automatically filled from a merchant’s website.

Why we care This new change should eliminate headaches for less technical people struggling with channels, while also bringing better insights for data-hungry retailers. The statistics on the Performance tab look promising, especially for those who prioritize product bug fixes.

Merchant Center Next vs. Merchant Center. Merchant Center has been a manual process that involves setting up a product feed along with all the necessary products, prices, images, descriptions and more.

Merchant Center Next will detect all of this from your website and enter it automatically. However, there is good news: merchants can edit these products or disable the feature entirely.

While the experience is being called “simplified,” according to Google, “the Merchant Center features that big retailers know and love aren’t going anywhere either.”

Google is “committed to releasing the new version at a responsible pace that brings users closer to when they can expect feature parity that meets their expectations.”
