Arizona native Steve Woods started his business from home. He took a leap of faith by taking all of his skills and incorporating them into his business model. Woods had extensive experience in technology and marketing and fused it with his entrepreneurial spirit.
“I thought I’d just get a shotgun and do whatever I do. And it’s turned into this,” Woods said.
His efforts paid off and he is proud to say that his local Carefree business, Tech 4 Life, is celebrating 18 years after launching in 2004, the same year Facebook and Gmail were launched. The company offers everything from website design and marketing, computer repair services, support and training to its community efforts to support non-profit organizations.
The company provides IT services, websites, digital marketing services and training for everyone. IT service can be completed on-site, remotely, or “brought” to your Carefree location. They also offer security and maintenance memberships that oversee security, updating and maintenance very affordably.
For those looking into digital marketing, Tech 4 Life can help with new and existing websites, social media accounts, print media, advertising campaigns and search engine optimization.
The business is located on Easy Street next to the Carefree/Cave Creek Chamber of Commerce. The great location offered more than a chance to connect with neighbors, it also connected him with his current VP of Digital Marketing Jen Miles, whom he met across the street.
“I had started my own business doing social media and email marketing for small businesses and we worked together for a bit on that and it’s since become a great partnership as we’ve grown the business,” Miles said.
Now a team of eight, the business continues to thrive. Most of their customers are members of the community based on the relationships they have built. Woods and his team have built the business on their love of community. They believe in what Woods describes as using a country doctor service.
“I implemented it to remind myself to focus on what matters. We care about people first and then we care about money,” Woods said.
The company’s focus on community doesn’t stop there. Woods saw that there was a way to facilitate a larger version of neighbors helping neighbors. They created a platform called Community Partners. The program allows for an equal partnership between nonprofits and businesses.
Businesses support non-profits through volunteering and allowing visibility on their website to raise awareness, but the help doesn’t stop there, as it’s also about how the non-profit of profit can support the business. The charity can also help with cross-promotional opportunities for the business through their channels as well as through direct referrals.
Becoming a member of Community Partners allows Tech4life to support both businesses and non-profit organizations with their marketing efforts and ability to increase visibility through backlinks and engine optimization search
Woods and his team are heavily involved with a number of businesses and non-profit organizations in the local area. Not only do they volunteer to support various annual non-profit events and help with their technology needs, but they also tour businesses through places like the Kiwanis Marketplace.
“I’ve learned that touring the actual facilities and meeting the people involved will spark a conversation within the community to support what others can do to increase awareness, volunteerism and donations,” Woods said.
Tech 4 Life remained open during the pandemic to support all the tech needs of area residents.
“It was an interesting adventure,” Woods said. “We were able to help a lot of people stay in business and stay healthy. In the end, our community partnerships kept Tech 4 Life going. Tech 4 Life’s other motto is ‘Buy Local or Say Goodbye Local’ . Tech 4 Life would like to continue working to further impact our community. So please shop local.”
