“I take a look at all their channels, brand, tone, assets and strategies and help them communicate better and optimize their websites and channels,” said Ruiz. “I develop a short- and long-term strategy for them and use a lot of SEO (search engine optimization) and content marketing tactics.”
Ruiz is originally from Oaxaca, Mexico. He moved to Canmore in 2005 to work with the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise in communications.
“Like many of us, I fell in love with the area and never left,” Ruiz said.

Ruiz has two daughters, ages 12 and 15, who love to play basketball and in their free time enjoy spending time with their friends. They also live with their dog Monika, who is a happy senior at 14, living her best mountain life.
Ruiz wears many hats in his job.
“I have a part-time communications role at artsPlace and I have a small digital marketing agency called Truth and Brand,” Ruiz said. “I work with several clients through my agency.”
She has been in communications since 2003 and then branched out into marketing through formal education and work experience.
“I changed it and worked for the City of Canmore organizing all the community events from 2013 to 2019,” said Ruiz. “During this time I went back to digital marketing school and started working with clients. In 2019 I went out on my own and got back into communications, marketing and digital marketing. I’m currently finishing a certificate in design ‘UX at York University’.

There is a lot of information to know to be good at your job, he said.
“I love finding areas that can be improved and coming up with solutions,” Ruiz said. “I love seeing the growth that occurs as a result of a well-implemented strategy or actions. I learned in school, tons of practice, and I also spend an hour or two a day keeping up with all the changes on Google, Facebook, etc.”
He also enjoys working with sporting events such as The Rocky Mountain Soap Co. Women’s Run, Banff Marathon and Melissa’s Road Race.
The pandemic forced the cancellation of some of these events, but now things are back to normal.
“In terms of digital marketing, it impacted me in a positive way,” Ruiz said. “Before COVID, I had to try to convince people that their online presence really mattered and that a strategy was very beneficial to the health and growth of their business. After COVID, most people have experienced firsthand that your company or organization’s online presence is a really important, if not vital, piece of your marketing mix.”

He’s had many wildlife sightings in Canmore, but a life-changing event happened not far from here.
“I saw a hammerhead shark while scuba diving!” Ruiz said. “I had been waiting 20 years to see one and finally I did. He was so close. I will never forget it!”
Maya Angelou inspires her.
“Talk about strength and goodness rolled into one!” Ruiz said. “I admire his introspection, his tenacity, his way of being able to look at life and the things that happen. He found a way to deal with the cards he was dealt and make an impact.”
He also enjoys reading books by David R Hawkins.
