I hope you’re having a nice and relaxing weekend because it looks like Google Search rankings were very volatile again this past Saturday. I’m seeing an increase in SEO chatter and third party Google tracking ranking tools are showing significant ranking fluctuations on June 8th.
I really try not to post stories on the weekend, but I’m seeing a possible Google Search ranking update this weekend. And yes, it’s been a very volatile time in Google Search results for the past few weeks.
Again, yesterday, Saturday June 8, it was very hot.
Previous Google’s recent volatility
Here’s the recent Google Search ranking volatility we reported on. The most recent was June 5th and then the weekend of June 1st. Memorial Day weekend followed, then we had around May 22nd, May 16th, May 9th, May 3rd, and April 25th. Previously, the March 2024 Core Update started on March 5 and ended on April 19, 45 days later.
Google tracking tools
Just look at the warmup of these tools yesterday, most tools already have data from today, so look at the previous day in these charts:

Here are some of the early talks at WebmasterWorld and comments here:
Worst traffic I’ve seen in a long time. For both my boosted HCU sites and my demoted sites. Yes, there is a big drop not only because of the algorithms but also because of the launch of the Gemini app in my case. We have practically everything against it. So for keywords where I answer queries, I’ve lost positions, while I’ve gained where my site has nothing to do with the query. Years and years of hard work by Google engineers to get sites that responded perfectly to queries and then become like the worst search engines completely messed up. They have something, dropping for a few days! Traffic today is laughably bad. Before you say it’s Saturday, we’ve had Saturdays before. We have Saturdays from previous years to compare to this exact week. For the first time, I was surprised to see this little traffic. Now, the traffic has gone so low that it exceeded my expectations. I was discouraged, which is why I had even shared it the day before yesterday. Today’s traffic is so bad it’s laughable, it’s the same for me. Weekends are definitely the worst days of the week now.
For 10 years they were the busiest and most profitable days of the week for us, not anymore.
For us, they weren’t. We had about a 5-10% drop on weekends because our site only covers a couple of news items instead of 10-20 on weekdays. However, it is now sometimes down 40/50% on weekends in our niche. This is not fun anymore!! This happens on a Saturday, when most SEOs and webmasters should be enjoying some time off. Google has become unpredictable with its damn AI-powered (?) thing, which had to develop its own dynamics. There have been massive fluctuations in the last 24 hours. I lost a lot of rankings. Again, my competitors are nowhere to be found now.
Check the SERPs and, well, no surprise… More spam.
What are you all watching this weekend?
