AI-powered search engine Perplexity introduced a new product, Perplexity Pages, to select free and paid users on May 30. Content from these pages has started appearing in AI overviews and featured snippets on Google.
What are puzzle pages. Perplexity said it as a way to share your knowledge with the world, through in-depth articles, detailed reports or informative guides. You can even select the type of audience (beginner, advanced, any) when you have the AI generate your content. You can also add sections, videos, images and more.
How TechCrunch explained it further:
“All these pages are publishable and also searchable through Google. You can share the link to these pages with other users. They can also ask follow-up questions about the topic. In addition, users can also convert their threads existing conversations on pages at the click of a button.”
Pages on Google. These pages are indexed by Google and are included as citations in AI overviews and featured in featured snippets.

Junk mail? This definitely looks like a case of one search engine spamming another search engine. Or, how Ryan Jones put it on X, “An overview of AI on an overview of AI on search results pages on my search results page.”
Aside from this nonsense, the perplexity pages are ripe for abuse by those who will likely try to use them to hack their way into AI overviews.
A big question is how Google will manage this new AI-generated content in its long-term search results. This tactic could be short-lived, as noted in one thread X, started by Glenn Gabe. From the thread:
