Six months ago, I covered the famous (not) “belt” comments about the changes coming to Google Search in the coming months. Well, Andy Simpson posted a recording of Danny Sullivan, the Google Search Link, making these comments and I thought it would be nice to hear them now, 6 months later.
Here’s what Danny said word for word then:
There is so much going on with Google in terms of ranking right now. There’s a lot to come and I don’t want to tell you to buckle up because that freaks you out because if you do good things, it won’t be a problem for you. But all the things that people keep coming up with right now, they can’t wait until it’s all ready and that’s coming. This will take care of that sort of thing. I hope, I hope But it is not unknown to us and it is not, we do not care.
Here’s the recording, so you can hear it for yourself:

This term “belt” has been bandied about like crazy in our industry for the past six months.
It’s interesting to hear it now, after that March 2024 core update, I think the update we’ve been waiting for, and ask if this is the update we’ve all been waiting for?
I’m not sure if most SEOs would think so. But Google said the latest core update led to a 45% reduction in low-quality, unhelpful content showing up in Google Search results.
Oh, and as I wrote this morning, there’s more to come.
Discussion in the forum a X.
