Ziptie analyzed 500,000 queries to find out which patterns trigger SGE results. The Google Search Generative Experience (SGE) is not available for all user queries and has different effects on acquiring search traffic depending on the vertical in which your business operates. The result of the analysis showed that most verticals seem to be in the 80-90% range with the beauty vertical at the top with a query coverage of 94% and the financial vertical with an SGE coverage of 47%
Health and finance had the lowest Google SGE, but despite being the lowest, health had 80% query coverage. Google had started guidelines called Your Money, Your Life to hold websites to a higher standard. These two categories belong to YMYL and Google uses AI to cover YMYL queries. The finance and investment sector was only 22% covered by Google in July 2023, but is now covered by 47% as of April 2024. Search Engine Journal predictions say that Google will add more SGE results with more data that will deliver high quality results.
Users who have been using Google SGE for a while will soon see a “Generate” button instead of Google displaying SGE results by default. After comparing the Google SGE default results and the generate button results, it was found that each ratio of results is different for each vertical. Automatically generated results do not require any user action. Auto-generated results from Google SGE can also undercut traditional SERPs. In the healthcare sector, 68% of queries come from Google SGE while only 9% show a generate button. On the other hand, for verticals like entertainment and hotels, only 4% to 6% are auto-generated results while 77% of queries show a generate button.
To estimate the impact of Google SGE on your brand, you need to prioritize Google SGE data. Gather queries that cover 80-90% of your search volume and split queries that come from auto-generated Google SGE and those that come from manual Google SGE. Many SEO teams around the world want to add Google SGE optimization to their search results. After splitting queries, optimize queries in auto-generated buckets and track buckets in Google SGE. Once you know the SGE effect on your brand, look at the sources.
Brands can only get organic traffic from Google SGE when brands click on an AI-generated content source. Depending on the vertical you’re in, 40% to 50% can make a big difference. Results that show fewer sources have a better chance of generating more traffic due to a higher click-through rate. You need to track the number of sources for your Google SGE queries. Prioritize your SGE optimization for queries that have the fewest sources. Google SGE is working on a new algorithm right now, so your ranking will not become Google SGE one-to-one.
