Google CEO Sundar Pichai was interviewed by Emily Chang at Bloomberg ahead of the big Google I/O event. They talked a lot about a lot of things, but there was a 25 second clip where they talked about the quality of basic search. As you can imagine, he didn’t say much, but he did respond.
Emily Chang asked the Mark 8:10 in the video interview:
Some leading computer scientists have said that search is getting worse, more SEO spam, etc. Do you see his point?
Sundar Pichai replied:
Every time there’s a transition, you get an explosion of new content, and the AI will do it. So for us, we look at that as the challenge, and I actually think that, you know, there’s going to be people who are going to struggle to do that, right?
So getting it right is what will define a high quality product, and I think it will be at the heart of what makes Search successful.
