Rumors say. OpenAI is developing a ChatGPT feature that searches the web and cites sources in its results. Bloomberg informed (requires subscription):

“The feature would allow users to ask a question in ChatGPT and receive answers that use details from the web with citations to sources such as Wikipedia entries and blog posts… A version of the product also uses images alongside written answers to the questions, when relevant. “I don’t think the world needs another copy of Google,” Altman said.

ChatGPT’s version of search would not be traditional or classic web search. Altman’s vision is to integrate ChatGPT with Search:

“…We are interested in how to do it right. That would be an example of something cool. I don’t think anyone has figured out the code yet. I would love to go do it. I think that would be great,” Altman said.
