Google says having news in your site name is fine

Google News Broadcast

Here’s a new SEO myth I haven’t heard before… Someone said that using the word “news” in your site name is bad for SEO and Google rankings. Google’s John Mueller said no, it’s fine to use “news” in your site name.

This question arose in the background of a Help for Google Webmasters thread where Mike Hardaker of the Mountain Weekly News said he was told, “Can’t I have the word ‘news’ in my site name?”

Google’s John Mueller responded: “From a Search perspective, it’s fine to have ‘news’ in the site name.”

So there you have it, another SEO myth busted.

I mean, there are tons of news sites with “news” in their name. CBS News, ABC News and all these local news channels….

Discussion in the forum a Help for Google Webmasters.
