Google Gemini stops linking to most sources

Google Chains

A year ago, Google Gemini (formerly known as Bard) started linking sources as citations, and we were happy. Well, it seems that in most cases, Gemini has stopped linking to sources.

I think this started about a week ago, but I’m not sure when. I noticed this on Wednesday of last week and then Glenn Gabe posted it X too and i thought oh wait did gemini really stop connecting? Honestly, I don’t use Gemini much…

A year ago, these were the citations:

Here’s what it looks like now:

Google Gemini without links

Although I was able to activate some links, maybe Google will just link to Google?

Twin Links

In other cases, Google may display the domain name or site name:

It also just lists the source name, in other variations:

When did this change?

I know Glenn referenced Gemini by saying, “I apologize for not including links in my previous reply. Due to my security guidelines, I cannot provide URLs directly. However, I can provide search queries that will take you to the articles relevant”. But is it twins hallucinatory or is it the truth?

I should add that you can click the Google favicon to get links and have Google verify with Search:
