OpenAI to launch the search engine

White Robot Openai

Over the past week or so, I’ve seen two signs that OpenAI will soon release its own search engine. The first is that search.chatgpt.com shows up in the log files of some servers, and also, yesterday, there were more business-oriented rumors that OpenAI launched a search engine on May 9th.

Ashutosh Shrivastava shared a screenshot showing that recent OpenAI SSL certificate registrations revealed the search.chatgpt.com domain. He said this “may indicate that OpenAI is developing search functionality.” He shared this with me X and shared this screenshot of the log:

The logs came from Jimmy Apples, who posted this this way:

It took me a few days to cover it because I was offline for Easter, but it seems Analytics India Magizine covered it, writing: “OpenAI is likely to announce a new search engine soon, Jimmy Apples revealed, stating that the company wants to hold an event this month, tentatively on May 9, 2024, at 10am” . This is very specific. Date and Time.

“They were advertising for internal event staff and event marketing in January, they just hired an event manager last month,” said Jimmy Apples, hinting at a major event coming up in June where OpenAI could launch his next model: “Whatever Sam decides to call it.”

I suspect that whatever OpenAI launches, it won’t be exactly like Google Search, but we’ll see. I like that we are seeing more alternatives to Google Search, not only from Bing, but also from Perplexity AI and others.

Discussion in the forum a X.
