Google says that SEO is not about magic

Google Magician

John Mueller of Google had another sentence, this one said, “keep in mind that SEO is not really about magic.” This was in response to trying to get SEOs to try to find some magic by using various HTML elements and therefore see some kind of SEO benefit to that “magic”.

The original question Reddit was:

I would like to place my H1 inside the first slide (it will always be the first slide) of a hero carousel (using SplideJS).

It will be in rotation with 3 other slides, all with the same screen time.

None of the other faces will have an H1, just the first slide with the page title.

Would this have any impact on SEO? Should the H1 always be visible on the page?

John Mueller of the original Google responded to this thread citing Google search results for a query [johnmu h1]. Then he added:

I would think what kind of problem it could create compared to the other comments about H1 from the search link and elsewhere. If the answer is “a little magic might happen when these two elements touch”, keep in mind that SEO isn’t really magic 🙂

Google’s Gary Illyes in 2015 said that the magic of SEO is learned from experiments, by the way.
