YouTube advised creators and sellers not to remove videos from the platform. Also, the app strongly suggested that you avoid making private videos.
The Google-owned site explained that removing content from the app or restricting access could break your channel’s connection to people who have viewed that video and negatively impact rankings.
What YouTube says. Todd Beaupre, head of product at YouTube, said X:
“YouTubers: Don’t delete videos unless you have a very, very good reason. When you delete a video, you remove your channel’s connection to the audience that watched it.” “If you want to maximize your growth, keep your videos public or unlist them if necessary.”
what does this mean. In simpler terms, YouTube’s algorithm recommends videos in its search results by connecting the dots between each upload. When you remove one of these points (aka a video on your channel), it’s a bit like removing a puzzle piece. This means that deleting or hiding content could lower your channel’s overall ranking and limit reach because it disrupts the pattern of your content.
Why we care. It might be tempting to delete or hide content you’re not comfortable with, but unless the video is really bad or harmful, it’s best to keep it on your channel. Otherwise, you could end up hurting your channel’s overall ranking.
