Google is rolling out a change to the Outlook filter, renaming it from Outlook to Forums. A Google spokesperson told Search Engine Land that the word “forums” is a more intuitive name when searching for such content. Google also told us that searchers can use this filter to drill down into the results of hundreds of forums around the web.
More about perspectives. Google launched the Outlook Filter on mobile search last June, where you can filter search results to just this type of content. Searchers can filter their search results to display results for viewing videos, blogs, and forums. These results aim to show people a “lived experience” in their search queries, Liz Reid, Google’s vice president of search, told Search Engine Land at Google I/O. These searchers are able to see responses from people who share their own personal perspectives and these responses are provided in a user interface that is more user-friendly and consumable for the younger searcher.
How it looks now A few weeks ago I took Google tests showing “Forums” as a search filter in search results. Here is the screenshot of Shameem Adhikarath:
Here is the same query but with the outlook filter option:

Why the change? Google said it continues to invest in making it easier for people to find content that reflects people’s perspectives and first-hand experiences on Search. Google told us they’re always looking for new ways to make it easier and more intuitive to find. According to their data, Google found that it is more intuitive for users to filter by “forums” than by “views”. Google also said that people can use this filter to drill down into the results of hundreds of forums around the web.
Perspectives do not disappear. “Other types of content, such as short videos and UGC, which was previously included in Insights, will continue to be accessible for relevant queries such as carousels, clusters and listings of traditional web pages on the search results page,” we said a Google spokesperson.
Here’s an example of this perspective box, but there are many variations:

Why we care The name change from “insights” to “forums” should make it clearer to searchers what to expect when filtering these search results. Those users who want to see results in forums will now not get confused when filtering specifically by forums.
If you run a forum or write a lot on Reddit or other forums, you might like this feature to find content on these types of websites.
