Google has updated the recipe rich results report in Google Search Console. Google also cleaned up some of the recipe structured data documentation. You may see an increase in notices for your prescription items related to the reporting update.
Google said, “Search Console now reports two new properties in the Recipes rich results report: recipeInstructions and recipeIngredient”. This started on March 6, 2024.
As a result, you may see an increase in notices for your prescription items in this report. This is not a change to Google Search, but to reporting in Google Search Console.
Here’s what Google changed in the recipe structured data documentation:
Google removed much of the Guided Recipes documentation as it is no longer in the Google Assistant.
Removed:
Guided recipes: Enable Google Assistant to guide users through your recipes on Google Home and smart screens by adding structured data to the recipe. There are some additional properties that are required for Guided Recipes, but are only recommended for Google Search. Be sure to add the recipeIngredient and recipe instructions. If you add the video property, you must also add the contentUrl property. To learn more about recipes in the Google Assistant, learn how you can create Actions from web content. Removed:
If you want your recipe to show up as a guided recipe in the Assistant, make sure to add the recipeIngredient and recipe instructions. If you add the video property, you must also add the contentUrl property. If your recipe doesn’t have these properties, the recipe won’t be eligible for Guided Recipes (but may still show up in search results).
This line has been removed:
If a recipe has sections, but they are not defined with HowToSections, the Assistant may incorrectly present the section name as an additional step (for example, a “Make the Crust” step followed by a “Combine Flour and the yeast”). .
Also added “Use HowToStep to group one or more sentences that explain how to make part of the recipe, if that makes sense for your content.” That part, “if this makes sense for your content.”
Discussion in the forum a X.
