There’s no doubt that Google is going through a rough patch right now on many fronts. Between all the complaints about search quality, all the search bugs, the revelations from the DOJ investigation, the muddle of click data, the pillow shaking, the Gemini glitches, the list goes on and on… A plus, of course, Google is the big one. and it is no longer the small start-up it was 25 years ago.
It’s no surprise that SEOs like Google are far fewer today than they were years ago.
A survey I did X shows that around 68% of SEOs like Google less now than in the past. About 25.5% said they like Google as much as they do. And only 6.5% said they like Google more now. That’s 1,769 votes, which is generally a lot of votes.
Here is the survey:
SEO: How do you feel about Google these days?
— Barry Schwartz (@rustybrick) February 27, 2024
A pie chart for my pie chart lovers:
I mean, I can’t blame them. The perception around the Google brand is probably at a minimum. I have never seen so much whining and vile hatred around Google in my 20+ years covering the company.
The problems with the quality of Google search, the promises month after month to do better, and those who have lost business and some who have had their lives destroyed (which is not known, happened with the update of Florida in 2003, Panda in 2011). Penguin, Medic update and all Google updates). And all the bad press from the documents released about the DOJ tracks.
Looks like Google isn’t the company some of us came to love.
I suspect Google is well aware of this and is thinking of ways to make improvements, but is it too late?
Discussion in the forum a X.
