Google search indexing issue still persists almost 5 days later

Nearly five days after confirming an ongoing issue with Google Search indexing, the issue has still not been fully resolved.

On February 1, Google acknowledged that its search engine was experiencing delays in indexing “a small number of sites.”

This admission came after numerous SEO professionals and webmasters complained overnight that their newest content was not indexed.

On Monday, February 5, Google analyst Gary Illyes provided an update, stating that “some things take a long time to get right.”

Illyes confirmed the problem has been “mitigated”, meaning there is no longer an external impact, but a suitable solution is still needed.

As of 02:21 PST on February 5th Google Search Status Dashboard indicated that the indexing problem had been mitigated with increasingly stable systems. However, Google says it is still working on a permanent solution to the problem.

The indexing problems started around 11:30 PM ET on the night of Wednesday, January 31st. Since then, many website publishers, content creators, and news organizations have reported problems getting newly published content indexed and appearing in Google search results.

“We are working to identify the root cause,” Google said in its update. “Next update will be in 12 hours.”

With this issue confirmed, publishers experiencing delays in indexing content and appearing in Google Search should rest assured that they are not the only ones affected.

Although Google indicated that only a small subset of sites are affected, indexing delays have caused frustration for publishers who rely on timely indexing to generate search traffic and revenue.

Google has yet to provide details on what may be causing the problem. The company said its engineering teams are investigating the root cause in hopes of resolving the issue quickly.
