Google Performance Reports updates how it counts clicks and impressions on job listing and detail pages

Google changed the way clicks and impressions are counted for job listing and detail pages in Search Console performance reports. You may see an increase in clicks and impressions when filtering for job listings and detail pages, but that’s just because Google evaluates these data points differently than it did in the past.

There were no changes to Google Search, only a change to the way Google reports these appearances in Search Console reports. This reporting change began on January 9, 2024.

What Google said. Google posted about this update here, that the change went into effect on January 9. Google wrote:

Search Console has changed the way it evaluates and counts impressions and clicks job listing and detail pages. As a result, you may see an increase in clicks and impressions on your job pages. This increase does not reflect actual growth, but instead Search Console more accurately reports the number of impressions and clicks across different job experiences in Search.

No changes to Google Search. Again, Google didn’t make any changes to how or where these job listings and detail pages appear on Google Search. Instead, this was just a reporting change in Google Search Console.

Why we care If you see an increase in impression and click data on your job listing and detail pages, that’s why. Note this to say that this is just a reporting change and there is no change to anything you’ve done or any changes Google has made to Google Search.
