Another quiet weekend for Google search ranking volatility

Google Robot Relax Beach

We’ve had intense Google search ranking update volatility over the past few weeks during the weekends. This weekend trend was halted when we had a mid-week update from Google around January 9/10. And over the last few weekends, including this one, volatility with Google search results has been relatively quiet.

That’s not to say there hasn’t been rank update chatter within the SEO community. There is always, always, talk about rankings going up and down, every day, in the SEO community. But the chatter level is normal and not the levels I would use to say there has been a Google update. The chatter levels aren’t high enough to warrant a post about an update.

Also, Google’s tracking tools show mostly quiet weather. All show normal or below-normal rating volatility.

Here are last weekend’s Google updates that we’ve covered over the past few months:

So today, we cover how there has been no Google ranking update for the past two weeks. Yes, I usually cover when there are updates, but now I cover when there are no updates.

As I said earlier, the chatter in the SEO community regarding Google ranking fluctuations is relatively quiet. There will always be chatter about Google search rankings going up and down, but the level of chatter is nothing like when I normally cover an update.

So I’ll share some of the chats from the past few days WebmasterWorld and comments here:

Well, today is another one of those days where you wonder if Google is still showing your website. G traffic almost stopped yesterday and today and I’m still losing keywords.

So it’s business as usual, it goes up for a few days, then it goes back down and so on. Overall, however, the number of visitors remains at a constant level, although significantly lower than in January 2023.

It can be confirmed. Yesterday and today are very bad. Same as last week. Yep, another big drop in traffic…you could see how it started yesterday evening as first European traffic dropped, then today’s US traffic is -33% from average as of Wednesday… and it’s stayed at exactly… 33% since 11am, so seven hours straight. This is statistically impossible, so the whole thing is complete manipulation. It seems like a new pattern of a day in progress, a day off is becoming the norm. Down since October and no sign of slowing down.

I have never seen the results as bad as they are now. Complete mess and some Indian newspaper is just ripping my content and ranking about me few hours after publication.

In recent days, we have seen a slight increase in traffic. No increase in conversions, in fact, conversions have decreased.

We looked at it and saw that our Google Discovery has seen quite a significant increase. Our blogs have been doing well lately, but our CTAs don’t have to be that compelling because they will read the article (I assume from their response) and then leave our site without taking any further action. I have been monitoring with Microsoft Clarity.

Almost half of our traffic now comes from our blogs.

Our traffic has increased noticeably (and sometimes significantly) most days recently, using weekly comparisons. I would credit most of that to our normal seasonal upward curve, but we’ve also been increasing on year-over-year comparisons. However, we are still almost 50% below this time last year. Today there was a 15% drop in what little traffic is left on my site. The path from 1.5 million visits to almost 0 continues. Big drop today…thursday was our best day for months, friday worst.

It appears that Google is conducting experiments to maximize profits while staying within the new EU rules, at least in its own eyes. Turbulent times ahead.

I have a feeling today will be a new low for me, following on from yesterday’s low, despite the weekend and winter time (usually my peak time) yes, the traffic has hit me too today. Get the weekend, views completely fall. Does Google just jog everyone over the weekend or something? Absolutely insane for how unstable the traffic has been for so long. He used to be solid and stable, but for the past two years, he’s been so manic. I don’t know when these guys will sort this out and restore some normalcy to the rankings. All traffic and ranking down now, what the hell is going on here ALL TIME DOWN for yesterday and today. The new norm. Today is probably my all-time low as well. Yes, lowest converting day in weeks. Very bad.

This is the last few days of chatter, not a day or two of chatter like I usually cover when I do these posts.

I know many of you are still seeing a lot of ranking fluctuations, some for the better, most not. But things seem quieter on the weekends with Google compared to a few weeks ago.

What do you think is going on anyway? Why do you think updates over the weekend slowed down? Is something big coming up? Should we fasten our seat belts?

Discussion in the forum a WebmasterWorld.
