During the last few unconfirmed Google Search ranking algorithm updates we covered, almost all of them were reported over the weekend. Now I’m seeing search ranking volatility in the middle of a work week. I’m seeing signs of an unconfirmed update starting Tuesday January 9th and today Wednesday January 10th.
Again, it’s somewhat unusual to see an increase in ranking volatility during a business week, rather than starting on a Friday and over the weekend.
Now I’m seeing signs of an update starting yesterday and today. But just to show you past Google updates, here they are and they were all over the weekend:
Here’s what I’ve seen over the last few days…
SEO Network
Let’s start with the chatter I’m seeing in the SEO community. Note that it’s less than 24 hours, so the chat is still new. The talk is with both WebmasterWorld and comments here:
Traffic has been very light since yesterday. I notice heavy movement in the SERPs. Lots of volatility. Something happens… Seeing it too. Many of my articles have dropped off the snakes / lost a lot of top keyword rankings they were in before, but still rank for a secondary keyword or two. , but the traffic disappears again for hours on end. Something is wrong! Traffic and conversions have been rubbish for a while, but in the last few days we’ve noticed a sudden pattern on our UK sites. Traffic and conversions almost completely stopped around 5pm. It’s very slow again today and I’m pretty sure they’ve done something again. I was just going to post something similar. The holidays are over, sales should be flying… but they aren’t. Slight ranking improvements on boot. Anyone else noticed errors like this on January 4th and 6th? Today also looks the same so far.
Google tracking tools
Here’s what the tracking tools are showing, some haven’t updated for the day yet, so I can go in later today and update some of these charts:
Have you noticed anything important with your Google Search results in the last 24 hours?
