Google has made a number of updates to its instructions control your snippets in search results to clarify that snippets are primarily generated by page content. Google removed the section on rich results and structured data from this page.
Google explained, who have clarified in these documents “that the main source of the fragment is the content of the page itself”. Adding “Previous wording incorrectly implied that structured data and the meta description HTML element are the primary sources of site snippets.”
Google changed the first paragraph to read:
Google mainly uses the content of the page to automatically determine the right snippet. We may also use descriptive information in the meta description element when it describes the page better than other parts of the content.
