Google Local Ranking Algorithm Update January 4th

Google Local Algorithm Update

There may have been an update to the local ranking algorithm that Google quietly released on Thursday, January 4th. The BrightLocal Local RankFlux tool showed a significant increase in volatility on Thursday, and some local SEOs have confirmed seeing changes in their clients’ rankings at that time.

The BrightLocal Local tool RankFlux showed a Flux score of 5.92 last Thursday, here’s a screenshot:

I asked if any local SEOs noticed changes in rankings, here are some of the responses:

Something is brewing in the premises…

I’ve never seen a Local RankFlux score this high.

We’ve checked our data and are pretty confident this is an accurate score. https://t.co/jIey1jXFC3

We usually report on the 1st of every month, there were a lot of drops compared to last month. The same on January 2 and 3. We’ve been reporting back on some clients today and we’re seeing a lot of improvements, so *something* must have happened… https://t.co/GSJyLAi4wn

Weeks ago there was a confirmed change with the opening signal in the local ranking. So this might not be related to that?

Have any of you noticed changes in local ranking on Google Search and Google Maps?

Discussion in the forum a X.
