As I hinted at in my last video recap (be sure to subscribe), I saw some early signs of an update on Friday, January 5th and 6th. Well, now there are more signs that I’m more confident in writing about the volatility of the Google Search ranking algorithm.
We’re seeing both automated tracking tools and intense SEO chatter within the SEO community on and around Friday, January 5th and 6th.
The last updates I reported were not confirmed, including Google’s update before New Year’s Eve and the update before Christmas. There was also a possible update to the local rankings on January 4.
And honestly, it’s gotten hotter since then, but the tools are getting even bigger now.
Google tracking tools
Let’s first see what Google Search’s automated tracking tools show:

The chat is pretty heated, we have 500 comments on my last post and the WebmasterWorld the wire is quite heated.
Here are selected samples from this talk:
It was strong all day yesterday… today US traffic has been gone since 11am. Now it’s -30% for the day. Amazing, Google intends to continue starving us of all US traffic in 2024, I think. I’m still seeing a huge suppression of US traffic compared to other regions. While the UK, Europe and Australia have recovered, the US remains behind all day. There is now a very obvious on/off pattern for US traffic, where you can see traffic freeze for hours at a time completely… traffic from the rest of the world will continue to flow, while the US will only will stop Google has complete control of the traffic flow and is loading the US results with so many ads and other widgets that it simply disappears. Anyone else see it? My traffic and impressions are declining online. I miss the old weekends. We used to have a lot of traffic on Saturdays and Sundays. Lots of comments to answer. Now, it’s just a wasteland. It looks like he was hit, but not as badly as most of us here. I have lost 70% of my traffic. Some have even lost 100%. Me too 70% Something is happening in the SERPs. Today I have 18 in real time, I checked a page in the top position. I’m looking at a possible ranking update. Many SERP results have changed since yesterday. After almost 11 years of hard work, these updates have destroyed my website. I can’t write any new content because of frustration. I think I can run the website only for 1-2 months. Also 15 years old and it’s really bad. This year is also the end of the road for me. The Covid nonsense ate up all the savings. Now there is nothing left. It’s a countdown to the end like everyone else. 15 years here, and everyone at SeoRoundTable shares a similar fate, you’re in good company. I also think it’s game over for me this year, at least online. There is a positive recovery of 30% or more from my end, guys.
