Version 5 of the Search Engine Roundtable is available

Search Engine Roundtable Robots Tinkering

Today we released version 5 of the Search Engine Roundtable. We’ve redesigned the site from the ground up, while revamping many of the site’s back-end and technical features. The site is now over 20 years old and the design was just over 13 years old – it was time for a redo.

Round table designed for search engines should look familiar and not too far from the old design, this is intentional. But it should also give you faster access to content, in a more visual and consumable way.

The most significant change you’ll see is the design, but a lot of behind-the-scenes changes are implemented not only to bring over many of the old features, but also to clean up a ton of technical debt and add new features. One of the features that you can really enjoy is dark mode, which is set by default in your device settings, but you can manually turn it on or off in the sidebar at the top right.

What’s new

Major redesign for all pages Custom (yes, custom) CMS backend update (big update) Dark mode Improved mobile design (no longer dynamic posting, true responsive design) Simplified top navigation Improved cache to increase speed (and will improve more over time) Improved image management Ads only load when I want, no dead space (if you want to advertise me) Added more structured data to the whole site Laravel application framework in PHP 8 on new AWS environment and more under the hood…

A lot has changed, we’ve spent a lot of time designing and reprogramming the site. I also spent weeks and weeks testing the changes, but I’m not sure if I caught all the bugs. Please let me know in the comments what you think and if you find any bugs let me know in the comments or via the contact form.

I would like to thank the great team at RustyBrick, specifically Shomari for the outstanding design, Jimmy for the coding, and Ronnie for uploading this new site. Thanks to Glenn Gabe to find some major bugs with the site before it goes live, I haven’t fixed them all, but they are in the queue. We also need to make some tweaks to performance and other areas, so stay tuned…

It was a huge undertaking, years in the making and I’m so glad it’s live.

There are some new things I can do with this site now, so stay tuned.

We also have a native mobile app for iOS i android.
