Blog posts are the most common type of content found in the top 5 positions on Google, a new study has found.
Why we care Several CTR studies show that most organic clicks go to the top 5 positions in Google Search (around 69% a 74%). So prioritizing the types of content that Google rewards with the most visibility is only logical.
By the numbers. Blog posts are the most frequent type of content in the top 10 positions of Google Search, excluding homepages, according to a study by business SEO platform BrightEdge. The blog entries appear:
511 times in the top 3 (8%). 1,014 times in the top 5 (23%).
BrightEdge determined content types for 23,785 of the top 10 analyzed pages, and 3,254 were blogs. The 19% figure excluded homepages, which accounted for 28% of the total.
But. Blogging will not deliver visibility or organic traffic without a strategy. The content you publish must be useful or helpful to search engines.

What BrightEdge is saying. To succeed in this new world of generative AI content creation, you’ll need a deep understanding of your audience, according to Jim Yu, founder and executive chairman of BrightEdge.
“The future isn’t just AI, it’s AI and human symbiosis. AI can inform and assist, but human creativity, experience and skill sets are needed to add voice and credibility to your brand. The “success lies in the fusion of AI and human experience throughout any content creation process,” he said.
