Bhopal: The space under the flyover under construction in MP Nagar, the city’s busiest commercial hub, is now grappling with the menace of illegal parking, causing inconvenience not only to commuters but also turning the area into an accident prone area. Despite claims by senior traffic police officials about regular action against illegal parking, the situation persists, worsening especially on weekends, when increased visitors contribute to parking cars and SUVs in the random Now, you can even see buses parked in this space.
The stretch of road between Board Office Square and Gurudev Gupt Square to Maida Mill, already riddled with potholes, has seen a further deterioration in its condition. Potholes have turned into craters, creating a dangerous journey for daily commuters, especially those traveling on two wheels. Solidified concrete debris on the road, either as a patchwork made near flyover pillars or to fill potholes earlier, now resembles speed bumps, compounding the challenges faced by commuters. Thousands of travelers pass through the area on their way to their offices and businesses or to the markets. The situation worsens during peak traffic hours.
Residents and commuters are increasingly voicing the urgent need for the authorities to rectify the road conditions, address the problems of illegal parking and ensure the safety of all who ply this crucial thoroughfare in MP Nagar.
Diksha Singh, a 32-year-old school teacher residing in Ratibad area, shared her ordeal of navigating this troublesome stretch on her scooter. She expressed concern about the continued collision with potholes, which led her to fear for her safety. Illegal parking under the flyover adds to the problem, forcing cyclists to zigzag to avoid potholes. Singh admitted to avoiding this route altogether because of the poor conditions.
Aslam Khan, a local businessman, stressed that the ongoing construction projects in MP Nagar have been extended for an indefinite period, and asked the authorities to quickly address the poor condition of the road to ensure the safety of commuters.
Also, the traffic chaos at the Gurudev Gupt Turnpike brings additional risks. Vehicles approaching from the Thaddaram Complex side often navigate the wrong lane, seeking a shortcut to the MP Nagar Police Station. Similarly, vehicles from the Board office side heading towards the Thaddaram complex avoid the roundabout, making the area an accident-prone area. The absence of police deployment aggravates the situation, aggravated by the unevenness of the road.
One lane of the road in front of MP Nagar police station still remains closed due to construction work. So one can see many commuters coming from Vallabh Bhawan Rotary side entering in the wrong lane just to avoid taking the long route through Vyapam Square.
DCP (Traffic) Padma Vilochan Shukla said the traffic police take regular action against vehicles parked illegally on the road in MP Nagar. The crane deployed by the traffic police regularly visits the area and takes action against these vehicles. He will look into the matter and strict action will be taken against the violators.
