Most SEOs who have been doing search engine optimization for a while know that Google can and will probably remove URLs from the Google index. Google’s John Mueller confirmed that this happens with Google Search turned on Twitter The other day.
John wrote “It doesn’t really matter what happened, but yes, any URL can get de-indexed over time.”
Even URLs that you consider important or one of the most prominent sections of your site can see that URL pulled from Google Search.
The trick is to make sure the URL is prominently linked throughout your site navigation and other popular pages on your site. Google may still decide not to index the page later, but you need to keep this URL relevant, unique and useful so that Google still wants to index and rank the page.
Here’s John’s tweet in context:
It doesn’t really matter what happened, but yes, any URL can get de-indexed over time.
