Nolan Church, a former Google recruiter and current CEO of talent marketplace Continuum, says his most fake resume is too many words and not enough context.

“The No. 1 thing I don’t want to see on a resume is probably bricks of text,” he said in an interview with CNBC Make Itand adds that if he sees “endless streams of text” in an applicant’s credentials, “there’s no way he’s going to move forward.”

Instead, Church advises people to “optimize a resume for a 10-second view” with short sentences that highlight the most important points, so it’s faster for HR to review your credentials and move on. in the recruitment process.

Church finds that people often get it wrong when describing their daily tasks, and says that a concise one-line bullet point below each title would do. With short communication like Slack and email so pertinent to office culture, getting to the point quickly and clearly is crucial.

“If you can’t succinctly describe what you’ve been doing in your career, there’s no way you can succinctly write in the workplace,” Church said.

He recommends the tools ChatGPT and Grammarly to reduce words and consolidate descriptions. Also, suggest having at least five to ten people review and provide feedback on your resume. That way, the next time a recruiter sees your credentials, they’ll be a perfect fit.
