Google’s John Mueller expressed his thoughts in a series of tweets about SEOs creating fake personas for a review site, including fake LinkedIn profiles. He said that if they believe that no one can say “you are fooling yourselves”.<\/p>\n

Fake LinkedIn profiles to look legit<\/h2>\n

AI is used to catch millions of fake LinkedIn profiles every year.<\/p>\n

An affiliate marketer using fake LinkedIn profiles for their author bio shared:<\/p>\n

\u201cAs an affiliate marketer, having LinkedIn profiles for my fake persona was a great way to build credibility for my authors.<\/p>\n

\u2026Over the past few months, 90% of my profiles have been suspended by LinkedIn.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately, I now have to find another method to add credibility to my authors and make them seem legitimate.”<\/p>\n

Fake LinkedIn profiles are so popular that Google Suggest actually suggests searches for them.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Fake Google Business Profile reviews<\/h2>\n

Google is suing a seller who allegedly created and sold fake Google Business Profile reviews as well as fake business sites.<\/p>\n

Earlier this year, Google shared that they use machine learning models to spot fake business profiles and reviews.<\/p>\n

Google shared how they catch fake business reviews:<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have long used machine intelligence to help us detect patterns of potential abuse, and we continue to evolve our technology.<\/p>\n

Last year, we released a significant update to our machine learning models that helped us identify new abuse trends many times faster than in previous years.”<\/p>\n

Google was able to block or remove 115 million reviews and blocked 20 million attempts to create fake business profiles.<\/p>\n

They are not kidding about being able to catch fake reviews and profiles.<\/p>\n

John Mueller in Fake Personas<\/h2>\n

Given how adept Google is at picking up fake people and reviews, it makes sense that Google’s John Mueller would claim that Google knows about them.<\/p>\n

He commented in a series of tweets<\/a>:<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cPSA making up fake people for your review site is awkward, even with fake LinkedIn profiles.<\/p>\n

Copying other people’s YT reviews together to make your own is cheap.<\/p>\n

Submitting it as a ranking question during office hours, uhm, what do you want us to say?<\/p>\n

\u2026To be honest, none of this would be a problem if you did everything yourself; it’s fine for one person to run a site, you don’t need multiple fake people.”<\/p>\n

when someone asked<\/a> How credible can a sole proprietorship be, Mueller responded:<\/p>\n

“You lose *all credibility* when it’s obvious you’re running a bogus operation. And to all the ‘no one can tell because I’m so good at it’ people – you’re delusional.”<\/p>\n

\u2026What can I say? “Do you wear a badge and get business cards?” You become credible by doing a good job.”<\/p>\n

Fake it, don’t you get it?<\/h2>\n

John Mueller may be right to say that those who think they can get away with fakes are “deluding themselves.”<\/p>\n
