In April 2023 and December 2023, Google changed the way it ranks what it considers video pages. In short, the video on the page must be the main content for Google to show you a video thumbnail in the search results and display it in the videos tab of Google Search.<\/p>\n

In fact, at the end of December, many saw a huge increase in non-core video content for page ads in Search Console, including this site.<\/p>\n

Google told us then that the video had to be in your face. And now Google’s John Mueller is repeating it X<\/a> saying:<\/p>\n

It really needs to be a very obvious video streaming page, especially on mobile. I’ve also seen people tweak their HTML a bit, to move the video elements\/objects a bit more front and center. It shouldn’t be a random video that is ancillary to the text, it should be primarily a video.<\/p>\n

A while ago, I moved my Friday video roundup posts to show the video at the top of the page, so it looks like this:<\/p>\n

But that didn’t change anything. Truth be told, I consider these posts to be the first video posts, but I also include a text summary of what I cover below. So I can see why Google disagrees with me.<\/p>\n
