This means that who you link to and\/or who links you has no impact on this new policy that Google started enforcing with manual actions earlier this week.<\/p>\n<p>Danny Sullivan said this <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/searchliaison\/status\/1788633312367694112\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">X<\/a>, &#8220;Abusing site reputation isn&#8217;t about linking.&#8221;  Instead, he said it&#8217;s about the content, &#8220;It&#8217;s about content that abuses a site&#8217;s reputation,&#8221; he wrote.<\/p>\n<p>Here are those posts:<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\" xml:lang=\"en\">Abusing site reputation isn&#8217;t about linking. Look here:\u2026<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Google SearchLiaison (@searchliaison) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/searchliaison\/status\/1788633312367694112?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">May 9, 2024<\/a> <\/p>\n<p>So, if anyone was confused by this, it should now be abundantly clear: this policy is about content, not links.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s how Google defines it <a href=\"https:\/\/developers.google.com\/search\/docs\/essentials\/spam-policies#site-reputation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">abuse of site reputation<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p>Site reputation abuse occurs when third-party pages are published with little or no oversight or involvement from the first party, where the goal is to manipulate search rankings by exploiting the site&#8217;s own ranking signals.
