The reason is that you control everything, whereas a social site can (and does) change the look and design at will without you having a say in the matter. Of course, if you have a website, you want it to rank high when fans and potential fans search for you. That’s where SEO (search engine optimization) comes into play. However, there are things we could be doing that could hurt your website’s search ranking without you knowing. Let’s see some of them.<\/p>\n Google<\/strong> it says “Duplicate content generally refers to substantive blocks of content within or across domains that completely match other content or are substantially similar.”<\/p>\n This means that you have copied a block or blocks of content to multiple places on your site. Sometimes it can be as simple as creating a new page and forgetting to put the old one in draft mode. Or you might have a page that’s a bit light on content and you want to bolster it with something from another page.<\/p>\n At first glance, this doesn’t seem too bad, but Google will find you with a lower search ranking as a result.<\/p>\n Google takes a dark view of copyright infringement, even if you do it unknowingly. For example, you’re lucky enough to have a song placed on a TV show and you’ve embedded a clip from the show on your website. You probably don’t have permission to do this, and even if you do, Google will see it as a copyright violation. It’s best to create a link to where the clip lives (probably YouTube<\/strong>) and save yourself the wrath of Google.<\/p>\n Remember that copyright infringements can occur in the form of text, images, audio or video, so haphazardly placing content you’ve downloaded from the web creates problems.<\/p>\n Building a website can be a long and tiring experience, even if you have someone do it for you. You’re often happy when it’s finished and finally looks good on your computer monitor. This, however, is not the end. Google now ranks websites based on how they look on a mobile device first, since most people access them there. Not paying attention to the user experience on mobile is a big mistake.<\/p>\n Most up-to-date website builders will allow you to check this quite easily, but the problem comes if you have an old website that has been completely adequate for a long time, so it’s not updated and mobile-ready. It’s probably time to upgrade anyway, but you’ll also help your website’s search rankings when you finally do.<\/p>\n It’s great to have links to other sites and Google will reward you for it, but they have to be of a certain quality. If you have a lot of what Google considers low quality links<\/a> you will be stuck.<\/p>\n What is considered low quality? Links to sites that are irrelevant to your content and have no authority. Paid links are a good example, or some affiliate links. Just remember that not all links are good.<\/p>\n Speaking of low quality, pages on your site with anything that Google considers low quality will cause your rankings to drop. <\/p>\n According to the Semrush blog<\/a>A page is low quality if:<\/p>\n The content is not original or unique. The page does not respond satisfactorily to the user’s query. The information is not backed up by relevant and authoritative sources. The word count is too low with a lot of normal content. There are numerous grammatical errors.
