<\/a><\/p>\nLast week, Microsoft told us that Bing Deep Search is coming back soon, it took a little longer than they expected, but today it’s back.<\/p>\n

For my search “home”, it took about 15 seconds for the results to appear (30 seconds for “bing”). A blue bar shows progress.”<\/p>\n As a reminder, Microsoft pulled the test flights of Deep Search a few weeks ago after its initial test launch was pretty poor. I was able to test Bing Deep Search in the wild and, well, it didn’t go well, to say the least.<\/p>\n Earlier this month, Microsoft’s Mikhail Parakhin said, “It turned out to be more popular than we expected,” that Microsoft initially “though it’s more of a research tool,” but it’s clear that many want to test it further of the researchers. Parakhin said they “need to fix the cache” and make Deep Search “more robust.” He said he’ll “be back soon.”<\/p>\n Deep Search uses Bing’s existing web and search index in addition to its search ranking system, but “enhances them with GPT-4,” the company said. With Deep Search, GPT-4 enters the search query and then expands that query into a “fuller description of what an ideal set of results should include,” they added. Deep Search aims to retrieve “relevant results that often don’t appear in regular search results.” It does this by using “query techniques” to find pages that might match an “expanded query, rewriting the query on my behalf and also looking for those variations,” they said.<\/p>\n So maybe you all can try it now, it seems to be acting much better since I last tried it.<\/p>\n Discussion in the forum a mastodon<\/a>.<\/p>\n
