TikTok videos have been spotted in two prominent places in Google search results: Featured Snippets and Search Generative Experience (SGE). <\/p>\n

While I’m not entirely sure if this is “new”, I’ve never seen this before and this is certainly new to many people in the search community.<\/p>\n

Why we care<\/strong>. Many people have been having a semantic debate about whether TikTok is technically a “search engine”. What really matters is that people use TikTok to search. Your brand\/business could be missing out on ways to reach your audience \u2013 on TikTok, Google, or both. Especially now, where Google seems to be giving TikTok videos some prime SERP real estate. <\/p>\n

TikTok videos in highlights. <\/strong>Louise Parker, head of PR at Propellernet, shared a screenshot LinkedIn<\/a> for a search of [stroking baby\u2019s eyebrows]where the excerpt is taken directly from the caption of a TikTok video:<\/p>\n

TikTok videos on SGE.<\/strong> Separately today, Carrie Rose, CEO and founder of Rise at Seven, shared a screenshot LinkedIn<\/a> of TikTok content displayed in an SGE result:<\/p>\n

TikTok videos in the SERPs.<\/strong> TikTok videos are not new to Google SERPs. In 2020, Google started showing TikTok videos in a Carousel of short videos<\/a> already TikTok video carousel on mobile<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Microsoft Bing Search has it too promoted the results of the TikTok video<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Generation Z uses TikTok to search.<\/strong> While people continue to debate whether TikTok is a search engine, the thing to know is that consumers (especially Gen Z) could care less. Dig deeper into the survey: 51% of Gen Z women prefer TikTok over Google for search.<\/p>\n

Adobe also published the results of a poll<\/a> of 808 consumers earlier this month who found:<\/p>\n

2 out of 5 Americans use TikTok as a search engine. Almost 1 in 10 Gen Zers are more likely to trust TikTok than Google as a search engine.
