Sullivan also added that Google also doesn&#8217;t look at credentials for ranking. <\/p>\n<p>Sullivan continued <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/searchliaison\/status\/1744373098432864386\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">X<\/a>, &#8220;Author names aren&#8217;t something you do for Google, and they don&#8217;t help you rank better.&#8221;  He said that bylines are for your readers, not Google.  &#8220;They are something you do for your readers,&#8221; he wrote.  But he also added that &#8220;posts that do may exhibit the kinds of other characteristics that our ranking systems find aligned with useful content,&#8221; so keep that in mind.<\/p>\n<p>In fact, the who, how, and why were mentioned for Google&#8217;s AI content documentation.  &#8220;We recommend adding accurate attribution information, such as bylines, to content where readers expect it.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>But previously, Sullivan said author bios are for readers, not search engine rankings.  &#8220;So you&#8217;re saying I should have an author bio to rank better?&#8221;  No!  They should have biographies because their own readers would expect it!  &#8220;, he wrote.<\/p>\n<p>Google&#8217;s John Mueller previously said that authors are not a requirement for Google Search.<\/p>\n<p>So, Sullivan says, Google doesn&#8217;t use authors for ranking now.  He also added <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/searchliaison\/status\/1744371735405772927\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">X<\/a>&#8220;I know this is going to be a &#8216;simple, almost curious answer&#8217;, but this part of the article is wrong and doesn&#8217;t even quote us saying that. Google doesn&#8217;t &#8216;check our credentials.'&#8221; It&#8217;s something I understand people can misunderstand. , but it&#8217;s not what I&#8217;d expect a news publication investigating all of this to misunderstand and claim in such a simple, almost picturesque screenshot. It&#8217;s a misconception that, as I shared last November, we&#8217;ll be doing more to address.&#8221; .<\/p>\n<p>he <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/searchliaison\/status\/1744379351297081637\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">replied the author<\/a> from The Verge piece that says, &#8220;That&#8217;s a nice line and background that seems helpful to readers. But somehow it doesn&#8217;t make The Verge rank better as the article claims. It&#8217;s not something that somehow we &#8220;check&#8221; for overall search ranking. Focus on having featured content. You mean Google News, I think.  Authorizations are required for *eligibility* according to the transparency policy.
