Google is expanding its video requirements where the video must be the main content of the page to be shown as a video result in Google Search to have this requirement also with Google’s “video mode” in search . Google said<\/a>“extending this change to search results in video mode to better connect users with the video content they’re looking for.” <\/p>\n The change may take about a week to fully roll out, but once it’s done rolling out, you should only see videos in Google Search and Video mode from pages that make their video the main part of their content .<\/p>\n what changed <\/strong>Google said it will only “show video thumbnails next to results on the main Google Search results page when video is the main content of a page” and will expand this requirement for “video mode” .<\/p>\n Google explained “with this update, clicking on a result in video mode will only take users to a page where the video is the primary content.”<\/p>\n What is video mode. <\/strong>The videos displayed in the video tab are generally what the video mode is. Google shared this illustration of video mode in Google Search results:<\/p>\n It is not main video content. <\/strong>Google published some examples of types of pages where video is complementary to textual content, and not the main focus of the page, including:<\/p>\n A blog post where the video is complementary to the text instead of the main content of the page A product detail page with a complementary video A video category page that lists several videos of equal prominence<\/p>\n Search Console Changes. <\/strong>Google said this change may have an impact on your video reporting in Google Search Console. “You will see the impact of this change in your Search Console video indexing report<\/a>,\u201d Google wrote. Videos that are not the main content of the page will appear as “No video indexed” in Search Console. <\/p>\n “Since these videos will no longer be displayed in video mode, you can expect to see a decrease in the number of pages with indexed videos,” Google added. This decrease will also appear in the number of video impressions in the performance report<\/a>, video indexing report<\/a>and the report rich video results<\/a> in Google Search Console.<\/p>\n Google will also add a new reason to the report to explain why these videos are not indexed: “The video is not the main content of the page”, which simplifies the report by replacing the following issues:<\/p>\n Invalid video URL Unsupported video format Unknown video format Online data URLs cannot be used for video URLs Video out of viewport Video too small Video too tall<\/p>\n Why we care<\/strong> If your pages have been ranked in video mode on Google Search, you’ll see how those pages are performing going forward.
